How will data from this website be used?

Because longtail tuna are a “recreational only” species, the recreational fishing community has a responsibility to ensure the species is managed sustainably. In order for the sustainability of the population to be assessed, scientists need reliable long-term catch data from the recreational fishery. If the recreational sector cannot demonstrate it is showing stewardship for the species, management arrangements may change in future that are deemed most appropriate in the absence of reliable recreational catch data.

By submitting your catch data, scientists will have the required data to assess the population status in future. You will remain completely anonymous and your data will remain confidential and held by the CSIRO for use by scientists.
